However, under the new rules introduced by the National Medical Commission (NMC), students who have already passed Class 12 and now wish to pursue a career in medicine can appear for the Biology or Biotechnology exam as an additional subject from any recognized board.

Age Limit and Minimum Marks for MBBS

Minimum Age Requirement
To appear for the NEET-UG examination, a candidate must have completed at least 17 years of age by 31st December of the admission year.
At present, there is no upper age limit, which gives students from different backgrounds a fair chance to pursue a career in medicine.
Minimum Marks Required
Merely passing Class 12 is not enough. For students from the General category, it is mandatory to secure at least 50% aggregate marks in PCB (Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) in the Class 12 board examination.
Relaxation for Reserved Categories
Students belonging to OBC, Scheduled Caste (SC), and Scheduled Tribe (ST) categories are given relaxation in minimum marks.
- Required marks for OBC/SC/ST: 40% in PCB
- For Persons with Disabilities (PwD) category: 45% in PCB
Marks of Additional Subject Considered
If a student has studied Biology as an additional subject, the marks obtained in that subject will also be considered valid for eligibility calculation under NEET-UG norms.
